Joanna and Greg - Maternity Session

Kenny and I had an awesome time hanging out with Jo and Greg yesterday!  Greg is a good friend of mine from high school and yesterday I had the honor of documenting one of the most special moments in life for him and his beautiful wife Joanna.  They are expecting their first child in a couple of months and hopefully this session will give them great memories to look back on years from now.

We met at The Huntington Library at 10am.  Luckily we did, because I had suggested 9am  - in the hopes of beating the crowds and having less random people in the background.  It turns out that the HL didn’t open until 10:30am - and it was a really chilly morning.  For some reason, I remember being told by the staff there that I can get in an hour before the place opened for purchasing an annual pass.

Jo was warm and snug in her coat, but Greg - we couldn’t tell if he was nervous or cold.  It’s too bad I didn’t snap a photo of that!  But we finally got in and decided to head over to the Chinese Garden before anyone else did.  Thanks to my navigating skills we took a shortcut and got there in record time - no one was there yet.  We had the whole garden to ourselves!   I’m getting my gear ready and I see Greg doing this:

That probably warmed him up a bit.  Especially after a security guard spotted us goofing around from the other side of the garden and was making his way over towards us.  We quickly snapped a couple of shots and tried to get out of the his radar.

Jo looks so cute with her growing belly.

The guard had made his way over to our side and was totally keeping an eye on us,  so we started behaving - until he was gone.

Greg told me that Jo’s favorite photo from their engagement session was one where he dipped her.  Greg tried it here and it was tricky, but it’s still a cute dip nonetheless.

I’ve never seen Greg look at a girl the way he looks at Jo - he looks so happy.

Who looks this cute when they’re preggers?

It’s ‘that look’ again!  :)

After spending about an hour in the Chinese Garden (by ourselves), lots of people started flooding in.  I’m so glad we took the shortcut!  We then moved on to the Japanese Garden before heading over to the Tea Room for lunch.

On our way to the Tea Room we made a quick stop at the Bamboo Forest.

After lunch we went out to the open grassy area to get some sun.  As you can tell from Greg’s face, it was really bright.  I remember saying, “suck it up, just one quick shot…focus Greg, focus!”.  It didn’t work.

Then came this.  Jo had to slap snap him out of it.  I missed it at first, so I asked her to do it again.  It was so funny, but it was such a cute moment between them.

Jo and Greg, thanks again for an awesome session and I cannot wait to meet the little one!  You guys are going to be great parents!  :)
