What’s frozen custard?

Frozen Custard is similar to a premium french vanilla ice cream. Frozen Custard must contain at least a 10% butter fat content to be considered Frozen Custard. An egg base is added to make it into frozen custard or french ice cream. It differs from regular ice cream in both taste and texture.

Frozen Custard:

Has less fat and sugar than most premium ice creams (low sugar and fat content)

Smoother and creamier in texture (no ice crystals as in ice cream or ice milk)

Has an old-fashioned homemade taste

Has greater density (less air whipped in, it’s much more filling than soft serve)

Ounce for ounce

Melts slower, therefore lasts longer (no air whipped into product as soft serve)

Granma and Granpa took me and Kenny there 5 years ago and we’ve been hooked ever since. I think it tastes so much better than regular ice cream and frozen yogurt. I always order the vanilla with marshmellow sauce and bananas. That white gooey goodness you see on the top is the marshmellow sauce.

Kenny usually gets the butter pecan flavor with powdered toffee. Yum.

I’ve been looking forward to this the entire trip to Las Vegas. I haven’t had it for a very long time, and I can only find this in Vegas.

The last bullet above where it says it melts slower - it’s true. Just as Kenny came back to the car with my frozen custard, Kareena decides that she wants to poop. Yeup, right there at that very moment. So, I had to put down my camera and the frozen custard and hold her up because it really is impossible to poop while being strapped in a car seat. Not that I would know, but I do have a good imagination. So while Kenny’s enjoying his treat, i’m fumbling around with the poopy diaper, wipes and trying to clean Kareena up. Then she gets really excited seeing Kenny eat and starts wiggling around while i’m putting a clean diaper on her. All in all, the whole poopy diaper episode took around at least 10 minutes. The entire time while i’m tending to Kareena I’m thinking, “There goes my frozen custard. It’s going to be all melted and warm by the time I get to it.” I kind of got cranky over it, because that’s what the frozen custard here can do to you. When I was finally done - to my surprise, it didn’t melt one bit. It looked like it did though, because of the gooey marshmellow sauce on top. It was so good. We can’t wait for the next visit!
