Durian

I bought a fresh durian last week and have been waiting for it to ripen.  It’s been sitting near the pantry for a few days and boy has it been “stinking” up the house!  I like durian and Kenny doesn’t.  For those who don’t like durians, the smell is unbearable.  I have to agree that it does smell kind of bad - but it’s not foul like some might describe it.  It finally ripened today and I was able to cut it up and air out the smell.   I usually have a hard time cutting these bad boys open, but when it’s fresh and ripe, it just cracks open all on its own.  All I had to do was pull it apart.  It was so sweet and so good.

It’s really an acquired taste.  Surprisingly, Kareena likes it too.  It’s funny when we eat it because Kenny absolutely cannot stand the smell and has to cover his nose and mouth. I guess he can breathe a sigh of relief now that it’s not sitting in the pantry next to his snacks.  He wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.  He’s shuddering right now just looking at the pictures.  He’s totally missing out!
